The stock market ended the volatile week lower, but there could still be opportunities for plenty of companies' shares to rebound. CNBC Pro used its stock screener tool to find the most overbought and oversold stocks on Wall Street as measured by their 14-day relative strength index, or RSI. Stocks with a 14-day RSI above 70 are considered overbought, which indicates that shares might soon turn lower. Devon Energy made the list of overbought stocks, dominated by oil and gas producers, with an RSI of 82. On the other hand, Texas-based life insurer Globe Life , with an RSI of just 3, is among the most oversold stocks on Wall Street.

To cruise lines, they're cash cows. Related storiesThese are the three reasons cruise-run private destinations have become so important. Amid rising fuel costs, it's easy to see why cruise lines would want to plan more itineraries around these nearby stops. And because there's no need to rely on other excursion operators, they allow cruise lines to keep more profits in-house.

If that return isn't there, will they keep ordering the latest and greatest Nvidia chips? Despite the overall improvements in availability, Nvidia on Wednesday indicated it will face supply-and-demand imbalances with its upcoming AI chips. The U.S. government has said its export controls are designed to keep high-powered AI chips out of the hands of the Chinese military. In the November-through-January quarter, China accounted for a mid-single-digit percentage of Nvidia's $18.4 billion in data center revenue, according to the company. The fact Nvidia still booked China revenue in the hundreds of millions of dollars means it could take a further hit in the region.

Walmart quietly reduced its store count in 2023 even though the company was doing really well. In addition to closing underperforming stores, the retailer sold at least 79 small-format locations. Given what Walmart has planned for the next few years, the move away from smaller locations makes sense. "Walmart has always struggled with smaller stores," Saunders said. In addition to new stores, many existing locations are being upgraded to Walmart's "store of the future" concept, including 650 projects this year.

Diamondback Energy took one of the last major, privately held operators in the Permian off the table this week when it agreed to buy Endeavor Energy Resources for $26 billion. The top six companies in the Permian are set to own 62% of the basin's remaining oil reserves, according to Rystad Energy. Residential solar stocks are finding a bottom and should see meaningful upside in 2024 after a brutal selloff last year, according to Truist Securities. Levy raised Sunnova's stock price target to $18, an increase of $8 over the previous target, implying 72% upside from Monday's close of $10.45. Solar inverter manufacturer Enphase may also gain momentum now that downside risks are largely already priced into the stock, Levy wrote. Travelers are looking to cruises in 2024 because they are still cheaper than land-based alternatives. With occupancy levels approaching pre-pandemic levels, operators plan to hike prices in coming months. "Overall the market is extremely strong, especially the top end of the market in terms of the most high-end luxury cruises," said Bob Levinstein, CEO of cruise marketplace Cruise Compete. Even as travelers have canceled or postponed planned vacations to the Middle East, cruise bookings will still hit record levels in 2024, said Truist Securities analyst Patrick Scholes. Prior to the Oct. 7 attacks in Israel, industry-wide bookings for 2024 were about 25% higher than in 2019 for bookings in 2020.

AdvertisementA serious issue for travelers could be quietly brewing amid the booming demand for cruises : oversold ships. With this has come an influx of last-minute bookings that may be catching cruise operators off guard, leading to oversold cruises, Scholes said. On Tuesday, an oversold Quantum of the Seas ship left several travelers stranded at the embarkation port in Brisbane, Australia. While hard to predict, Scholes said he "wouldn't be surprised" if there were a handful of oversold cruise incidents next year as well. Statistically, it's still unlikely: Only a handful of the millions of annual cruise travelers have ever been impacted by this.

Analysts attended earnings calls in the third quarter armed with questions for healthcare and consumer companies about the potential effect on their sales from the growing popularity of these drugs, known as GLP-1 agonists. A Reuters analysis of earnings transcripts for the third quarter showed "GLP-1" or alternatives like "obesity" or "weight-loss medications" were mentioned 256 times across 29 U.S. and European healthcare and consumer companies. That's more than double the mentions for the second quarter, when those phrases came up 127 times. While some consumer companies have talked about factors such as fewer calories being consumed, "these kind of large extrapolations" seem to be a bit of a stretch, said BMO Capital analyst Evan Seigerman. For big pharma manufacturers like Pfizer (PFE.N) and Amgen (AMGN.O), analyst questions were aimed at their obesity drug candidates.
